Illuminating Huddersfield
Visual Art(3:58 looped)

My project is an illuminated experience to connect initiatives and organisations, that uses transparent materials to shed light upon the marvellous architectural detail of historical buildings in Huddersfield. 'Illuminating Huddersfield' reveals all that has faded into the background of this modern metropolitan city.

Based upon the fact that the Festival of Light 2015 in Huddersfield was cancelled due to budget cuts. I created a mini cityscape with the Huddersfield historic buildings and landmarks, where I intended to illuminate the town myself to celebrate the International Year of Light. Each building was laser cut and engraving on 3mm clear acrylic and projecting.

The Artist

Si ieng Fung is a mixed media artist based in Yorkshire, who works to commission corporate and private projects. Her practice explores the relations between material and space, light and shadow, transmission and reflection.

Through my art work I try to express what is forming inside, through my internal thoughts and ideas. At the moment, I have been looking at loss and what happens for those who are left behind. This visual expression allows the work to take on a life of their own and to create an existence beyond myself. It is the viewers that come to attach the work with meaning as art rests in their minds and memory.
